VICTORIA RILEY – BATIK

(This talk introduces Batik and its pattern making styles in an artistic context.  The talk will explain the traditional methods of waxing and dyeing the material, the tools used, fabrics and dyes and consider the history and cultural melting pot that lead to elements of Batik spreading around the world)

(Lisa Ashton, MBE is the founder and CEO of The Winnie Mabaso Foundation. A charity supporting vulnerable and orphaned children and the wider community in South Africa. She will be sharing her story with us of why the Foundation was established and what they are achieving 13 years on. )

(I will bring my electric piano to illustrate my presentation which is called “ New Orleans to New York” and features a journey of musical styles from Jazz to Musical Theatre and all points in between.

I will also be telling many amusing stories of interesting people and events that I have witnessed and been involved in during a rich lifetime of making music)

(What is the UK Parliament? What does it do? What do MPs do? What is the role of the House of Lords? How can we influence decisions made at Westminster? 

This presentation will answer these questions, commemorate 100 years since some women were first given the vote and encourage you to engage more with the UK Parliament.)
