On Sunday, four members went to the Imperial War Museum North in Salford to see the special exhibition ‘Fashion on the Ration: 1940s Street Style’ marking the 75th anniversary of clothes rationing in Britain.
The exhibition looks at how fashion survived and even flourished under the strict rules of rationing in 1940s Britain.
We had a tour round the exhibition led by Dr Alison Slater – an expert on 1940’s working class fashion, and also went to a workshop where we made a 1940’s style turban. (Workshop by Mary Jane Baxter Mary Jane Makes website )
