Last Thursday a small but determined contingent from the Culture Club braved the weather and Stockport’s parking restrictions for a visit to The Plaza to see a National Theatre Live production of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men.
This superb adaptation of Steinbeck’s gritty novel of the American depression was not unremittingly grim, there were a few light moments and even the odd laugh or two, however, true to the story there were tears in the end. The ensemble cast delivered a powerful and poignant performance and who knew that Chris O’Dowd, previously seen in the IT Crowd, is such a brilliant actor! We are very lucky that due to the wonderful innovation of live broadcasts we are able to see the best of West End, and indeed international theatrical productions. Of Mice and Men came directly from Broadway.
Finally, not that we really doubted it, we were happy to see that as the actors took their final curtain call,’ the dog was still alive’.
Looking forward to the next production of Jane Eyre, even if it is 3 1/2 hours long!
